Rusko the BatPig

My Name is Rusko and I'm a certified baby face. My full name is Sir Rustoficus, and I am the rustiest in the land. I live with my mom and dad in North Carolina. We live right next to a dog park so I get to play with my friends whenever I want to! We also live next to a river and I enjoy going on walks and pooping in neighbors' yards.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts <3

Rusko is doing much better now. He slept it off last night and woke up his old self. He is still a little bit out of it but he is very much himself. He played with the cat this morning and knocked over a plant, breaking the pot (that’s two days in a row now haha) typical. He is eating and drinking and happy. He has a vet appointment scheduled and hopefully we can figure out what caused it. He is currently sleeping peacefully at my feet.

Quick Update

Around 8:00 pm I noticed that Rusko was acting funny, suddenly. He started to look confused and worried, started to lose balance and fall. Then he started to have a seizure. It lasted probably around 10 seconds and afterwards he alternated between sleeping and wobbling. He has been wobbling back and forth since, falling over and acting confused. He threw up around 10:00 and slept afterwards. He randomly starts shaking and when he walks it’s like watching a newborn crawl for the first time. He won’t drink anything so we had to give him water. About 30 minutes ago he suddenly woke up confused as ever and “ran” to me for comfort. He has since been awake, looking around, wobbling back and forth. I can only hope that the worst is over… I cannot get him to the vet until the morning. I am broken. He is sitting now, leaning against my leg. I cannot do much at the moment. I talked to my vet tech friend and got a few opinions. We just have to hope for the best now. He seems to be doing better. Pray it stays that way. More to come, thank you for your thoughts.

Rusko isn’t doing well, thoughts please.

I think I FINALLY figured out Rusko’s food allergy problem. I’ve had him on 4 & 5 star rated products (according to dogfoodanalysis.com) since he was 11 weeks old. He never had solid stool and I brought him to the vet for it, they found giardia and we treated him twice for that but his problems persisted. I thought it was the meat source so we’ve had him on chicken, turkey, beef, salmon, and finally lamb from blue buffalo with no change. I was about to give up and get him tested but I tried again, one last time. Right now he is on blue buffalo grain-free wilderness duck, I made the switch 3 days ago (since he was already on BB I didn’t have to make the gradual change) and can already see his stool hardening, fur softening, less shedding, energy level increasing and appetite returning. Supposedly this food is an alternative to the RAW diet, which I was considering for him. There is also a wet food version which I am going to order to mix in with his dry food. Whew, huge sigh of relief over here! Just wanted to share in case any other frenchie owners are dealing with a persisting food-allergy problem and haven’t found that right food, just food for thought! :)

btw, I’m not sure if it is the fact that this food is completely grain-free or that he is now on wild game (duck) which I have also read might be good for allergy-sufferers… Maybe a combination of the two.
