I think I FINALLY figured out Rusko’s food allergy problem. I’ve had him on 4 & 5 star rated products (according to dogfoodanalysis.com) since he was 11 weeks old. He never had solid stool and I brought him to the vet for it, they found giardia and we treated him twice for that but his problems persisted. I thought it was the meat source so we’ve had him on chicken, turkey, beef, salmon, and finally lamb from blue buffalo with no change. I was about to give up and get him tested but I tried again, one last time. Right now he is on blue buffalo grain-free wilderness duck, I made the switch 3 days ago (since he was already on BB I didn’t have to make the gradual change) and can already see his stool hardening, fur softening, less shedding, energy level increasing and appetite returning. Supposedly this food is an alternative to the RAW diet, which I was considering for him. There is also a wet food version which I am going to order to mix in with his dry food. Whew, huge sigh of relief over here! Just wanted to share in case any other frenchie owners are dealing with a persisting food-allergy problem and haven’t found that right food, just food for thought! :)
btw, I’m not sure if it is the fact that this food is completely grain-free or that he is now on wild game (duck) which I have also read might be good for allergy-sufferers… Maybe a combination of the two.
